One year ago was the epic and deadly Minneapolis bridge collapse.

So throughout the summer M-DOT has been closing highways left and right to feverishly repair/replace the bridges.

This is like saving for retirement.

They are both a huge pain in the ass now, but could really save your ass later.

Jeepers Creepers

Last night on the radio they were having girls call in and tell stories of really creepy things that guys had done to them. Interesting, I thought, so I listened close.

Sure, a couple of the stories were genuinely creepy, but there was one that really stuck out: a guy kept on sending her letters telling her how much he liked her. Both the girl and the DJ were screaming “oh what a creep!” But I think this, and many of the other stories, were only considered creepy because the girl didn’t have equal affection for the guy. If she felt the same the gesture would have seemed nice and thoughtful.

Other examples of things that could be either thoughtful or creepy depending on POV:

visiting them at work
random text messages
lingering looks
mix tapes
etc.

I don’t know what profound statement I’m trying to make with this post, it’s just something I was thinking about. I guess if there is a statement to be made it would be not to jump to conclusions and, although this is almost impossible, try to think about what the other person is thinking.

The Budget Blues

Lately my blog has been littered with pics of what I’ve been doing (and eating) but not much of what’s been going on inside. So: friends, enemies, internet users and abusers - here’s what’s going on in my life.

I’m really sick of being at home with the folks and everything that comes along with it. So, I’ve been hitting the papers, the pavement and the web looking for a place to rent. I’ve found a couple nice places and some roommates so I took the next step - budgeting. Wow, I had no idea how much it costs to live in “the real world.” so after adding up all the costs I came to one realization - I can’t afford anything! Sure, I have money now, but as soon as I’m not manager anymore and I go back to school my wage will be lowered and so will the amount of hours I’ll be working.

So it looks like I’ll have to put all my dreams on hold.

My dreams of:

having a house full of IKEA furniture.
having bonfires and parties
having a bedroom decorated with graffiti art.
saying “you can crash at my place.”
just saying “my place”
staying out past 2:30 without getting a lecture the next day.
freedom and independence

So, if you need me, you’ll know where to find me - the folks place.

Spark Is A Diamond mixes Hardcore vocals with indie rock/dance punk music that is catchy enough to groove to… or headbang to.

…and the fact that the lead singer is foxey doesn’t hurt either!

I was walking out of a liquor store in a dark Detroit night with PBR in my hand and Emmie by my side, when a voice came from my periph.

I assumed it was a homeless man asking for spare change so I ignored the voice but still it persisted: “hey, my man! My man!”

Finally I turned and instead of a homeless man I saw a well dressed black man walking up to me. He said, “Let me just tell you I am a hat man, a hat connoisseur, and I like that hat. I like that hat!”

I laughed and just said, “Thanks, man!”

What a compliment, a hat connoisseur likes my hat!
